1. Hair chop — I chopped my hair a couple months ago and I do not regret it! The bob has been trendy for a while now, and the more I saw how fun and cute it was, the more I wanted one. Well, I finally did it and encourage you to just go for it if you’re thinking about it!
2. Collecting and pressing fall leaves — A way to make fall last longer. This is an easy way to save your fall leaves, keep them looking nice, and eventually use them in your fall decor for next year! It can also turn into a fun craft.
3. This article about Goodbye Earl and violence against women — I love Gabby’s writing and found her thoughts on these kinds of songs fascinating. This is such an important read. “We need an outlet for the anger at the injustice. It doesn’t matter that Earl specifically isn’t real, he represents a system that is very much real. A system that favors men and oppresses women. Sometimes you need to gather with a bunch of women and scream in a darkened arena because you’re not sure what else to do.”
4. Butternut Squash Soup — This recipe is from my chiropractor’s email list, haha! I needed a butternut squash recipe and there it was. I recommend!
5. Royal blue — I love this color!!! I will continue wearing it!
6. Write What You Don’t Know — Okay, there’s a paywall for this post, I’m sorry! It’s just so good that I still wanted to share it. I’ve followed Lore’s writing for many years and I recommend subscribing to her Substack! Here she challenges the idea of staying in your lane (something I struggle to do) and encourages writers to write about everything. Here’s a quote from the article:
“All the information out there about growing your platform, reach, subscribers, etc. says to nail your brand, get in a lane and stay there, drum up excitement over a single idea, and sure, that might get you readers and subscribers and get you highlighted among the masses, but at what cost to your own formation? And ultimately, at what cost to your readers?
I reject it. Write outside your lane, what what you don’t know, write your way into knowing something and then unknowing it and knowing something different.”
7. Life on Marz — An incredibly colorful and well-designed coffee shop and bar in Logan Square.
8. Nate Bargatze on SNL — Both his monologue and this hilarious George Washington skit.
9. Why I’m Still a Christian podcast — This is a series from the Holy Post podcast with Lecrae, Kristin Du Mez, Jemar Tisby, and Russell Moore. I’ve only listened to the first one so far but they’re excellent. I appreciate them asking this question directly as so many in the church are struggling with our faith and looking for reasons to hold onto it.
10. Open Books — I love this bookstore in Logan Square. The books are perfectly curated, good quality yet sold at a discount, and the store itself would be a lovely spot to sit and read.
