1. This Tim Keller video on the resurrection — Tim Keller died last Friday from pancreatic cancer. People have been posting wonderful tributes to him, recalling instances where he went out of his way to listen well, instances he showed kindness and curiosity. I read many Keller books and listened to many sermons, and I’ve always come away encouraged. This short video on the resurrection captures his ministry well.
2. The Songs of Jesus — Out of the eight Tim Keller books I’ve read, this one might be my favorite. It’s a little devotional that goes through all of the Psalms in a year. I read it in college and remember it being deeply pastoral. Tim and Kathy’s words brought me comfort and a greater sense of God’s love.
3. Delirium — The 2015 album by Ellie Goulding. I got more into Ellie Goulding at the beginning of the pandemic when she released her album, Brightest Blue. Her songs are fun and summery, so I recommend going back to this one as well!
4. Art deco — I love the intricate gold design of art deco architecture!
5. Re-listening to Sour all the way through — Olivia Rodrigo’s first album. It released at this exact time 3 years ago, and because of that, it also reminds me of summer.
6. Katelyn Beaty’s article on modesty — She writes, “Further, I am uncomfortable with an approach to modesty where women tell other women what they can and can’t wear. This sounds relativistic, and maybe it is. But it’s too similar to random podcasters tweeting to all women everywhere to stop wearing yoga pants. Modesty rules seem like a relic of teenage years, where parents and pastors have the most leverage (and the most anxiety!) for instructing teen girls on what to wear and not wear. I’m going to start with the baseline assumption that the women in my life are thoughtful adults with the freedom and wisdom to dress themselves.”
7. Pentecost — Liturgical folks are moving from the Easter season to the season of Pentecost, starting this Sunday–Pentecost Sunday. This year, I’m reminded that Pentecost declares all our differences to be good. The Spirit has the power to unite diverse people while continuing to affirm the goodness of our differences. Sameness is not what God wants or needs.
8. The Jonas Brothers on Armchair Expert — It was interesting to learn more about the Jonas Brothers’ journey from the early days of Camp Rock up to now.
9. bartaco in Bucktown — A new restaurant in Chicago! Bartaco is in cities across the U.S. and for good reason. This one in Bucktown has gorgeous outside seating, a lot of space, and a cute beachy vibe. The food and margaritas are spot on. Despite how curmudgeony I am about QR codes replacing paper menus, the order and payment method is so streamlined here that I don’t even care!
10. Salt on the rim — I think this should be the name of a bar if it’s not already. But speaking of margaritas, doesn’t salt on the rim just make the entire drink 20% better?
