Happy Wednesday! Here are 10 things I’m loving this week:
1. Armchair Expert – I feel like an evangelist for this podcast with the amount I talk about it. The episodes are interesting, deep, vulnerable, and funny with so many cool guests!
2. Friendship – In this challenging season, I’m so so grateful for all the friends who listen to me, care for me, send me encouraging messages, pursue me, ask good questions, make me laugh, show me grace, and so much more. Friendship is one of my favorite gifts on this earth! Truly, my friends are wonderful.
3. Avocado toast – Okay, this was all the millennial rage like 8 or so years ago, but avocado toast is still good and I still eat it and that’s something to celebrate. My favorite version has salt, cumin, red pepper flakes, and lemon zest.
4. Which brings me to my next and similar point, Breakfast food – It’s always good at any time of the day.
5. “Polling the audience” – Brené Brown is the first person I’ve heard use this term, but the idea is this: when we feel insecure about a decision, we ask everyone’s opinion about something, aka we “poll the audience.” The problem is we never feel quite secure enough, and people have varying opinions. This is different from merely seeking wisdom about something. Noticing when I start to “poll the audience” has helped me instead ask myself, “What do I think about this? What’s my conviction? Do I like or dislike this?”
6. This cinnamon roll – Last month, I got this cinnamon roll from Heritage Bikes & Coffee in Chicago. I’m still thinking about it and wondering when I can get another.
7. Miroslav Volf – Dr. Volf is a systematic theologian at Yale. I really respect his work. It’s not only theologically articulate but beautifully written. I’d recommend Exclusion and Embrace and For the Life of the World.
8. Beth Moore’s memoir – I’m laughing, I’m crying, and my jaw is dropping over Beth’s beautifully strung together words. I’m even more in awe of her courage and faithfulness and I’m not even done reading. I highly recommend, especially the audiobook.
9. Birds chirping – Spring is almost here and I am READY. Chirping birds are like nature’s music and I’m so happy to hear them more recently!
10. Lorde’s old album, Pure Heroine (Extended) – This album never gets old!? It seems like I forget about it every few months and then come back to listen again.
