1. Colorful tulips — I love these multicolored tulip bouquets! So bright and beautiful.
2. This Ash Wednesday/Valentine’s Day article — This article is about how to help children understand Lent through the lens of love, but it also helped me as an adult understand how similar Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day are.
”This is the love that we can talk to children about on Valentine’s Day—a love that gives so much that it literally fulfills the oft-stated declaration of ‘I’d die for you,’” Ned Bustard writes.
3. Plantains — Plantains are one of those foods I enjoy so much and order whenever I get the opportunity, but then I forget about for a while until I delightfully see them in the grocery store again and must buy them.
4. Hearts decor — I’m just here for all the Valentine’s decor—modern, vintage, kitschy, classy. All of it.
5. This article about Elisabeth Elliot — Laura Robinson writes in such a powerful, thoughtful way. I’m amazed at the sheer amount she can write as well.
Here she’s writing in light of another article about Elisabeth Elliot’s third marriage that’s making the rounds online.
As both of these articles note, Elliot was a complex person. Yet, her theology, particularly around dating and marriage, I came to believe, was too intense, and focused on self-denial to a fault. This kind of teaching ends up being especially harmful to women, who believe (or are expected to believe) that they must submit and be silent even in cases of abuse. Robinson shows how neither Elliot’s third marriage nor even her first marriage were ideal examples that we should aspire to.
This is important to talk about, because our theology matters for real people’s lives.
6. Matches — I’ve started using matches instead of a lighter to light candles and it’s just so much more fun?!
7. Snooze by Justin Bieber — I’ve listened to this live recording multiple times. I’ve been a belieber since seventh grade and that’s not changing any time soon!
8. Chocolate covered strawberries — Featuring Valentine’s sprinkles!
9. Blue skies — Blue skies are a treasure in the winter. I find myself looking up at them more often and it boosts my mood. I’m glad that groundhog saw his shadow this year!
10. Clare Caulfield’s art — I’m in love with her work! She has such a unique and colorful style. My favorite is ‘Paris Rooftops.’
