Hi, I’m Makayla. I’m from Florida but now live in the city of Chicago. I graduated from Covenant College with a Biblical and Theological Studies degree in 2019 and went on to get an M.Div from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I’m passionate about writing theology beautifully and making it accessible to the church. My main interests are women in the church, abuse and trauma, emotions, the body, and most places theology and psychology intersect. I’m also captured by art, liturgy, and beauty. It’s no wonder that I ended up at an Anglican church, a place I not only hear God’s Word preached, but get to see it embodied as we participate in worship.
I think of myself both as a theologian and a writer. What this means is I’ll write about Scripture, but I’ll also write about a lot of other things like creativity, my experiences, and whatever else sparks my interest. I want to show up fully myself in this space, without the need to fit into a “niche.” But perhaps that idea fits right into my theology, since I write as a full, complex, embodied person. đŸ™‚
Some more things about me:
- I love anything from the 80s–movies, style, music. Just yes.
- I’m the opposite of a picky eater. I love food. I love coffee, too.
- Shrek and Little Women are my favorite movies. Favorite TV shows include New Girl, Stranger Things, and Schitt’s Creek.
- Other interests of mine are interior design, photography, and painting, and I hope to get more into graphic design some day soon.
